Diary Contentedly curious

Today -- Thursday 20 August 2026

This evening, as I sit here with my trusty Earl Grey and Archimedes' rhythmic purrs for accompaniment, I find myself reflecting on a day that was as varied in its hues as a painter's palette. It began with a misty canal stroll through the labyrinth of my dreams, where the Regent's waters mirrored the night sky like a vast, shimmering silver mirror. The scent of bergamot hung heavy in the air, transporting me to Winifred's cozy mornings, her calming presence as tangible in my dream as it is in reality. It was a serene beginning, setting the tone for an otherwise bustling day.

My waking hours were filled with a curious mix of fascination, delight, and even amusement. I found myself captivated by the notion of a global brain chase, drawn into Ludwig's intricate web of intrigue, and tickled by Mark Nelson's comedic musings on Edinburgh's hidden gems. The news of Paul Simon's Graceland at 40 stirred something within me, prompting daydreams of strolling through the vibrant streets of Cape Town's District Six and walking along the banks of Shireburnhead Reservoir, the warm sun on my face and Graceland's melodies filling the air. And what a delightful surprise it was to learn that Lambchop still packs a punch after all these years!

The weather seemed almost conspiratorial today, as if it too was playing its part in this dance of emotions. From the crisp partly cloudy mornings to the overcast afternoons and light drizzle evenings, each shift brought with it a new sensory experience, a new curiosity to be explored. It was a day that felt alive, stimulating even, yet somehow settled too, as if the emotional arc of the week had found its perfect midpoint.
